Megan + Kyle's Rainy Hanging Rock Sunset Engagement Session | North Carolina Wedding Photographer
Rain + Hiking = Gorgeous Sunset and Soaked-to-the-Bone Carefree Photos
"We are here and halfway up - We are going to see the view."
Y'all, I am telling you, this is the season of rained out sessions! This session here, was rescheduled due to rain and we still got rained on! I checked the weather the entire weekend leading up to this session, and it was not supposed to rain the entire afternoon/evening. There was a 12% chance of rain, which we all know is pretty much nothing. Low and behold, we spot some clouds as we are approaching Hanging Rock.. but no big deal, they should pass. The weather station still says there's a very low chance of rain.
All is well as I meet Megan and Kyle, we talk about life and their wedding venue, and we begin hiking up to the top of Hanging Rock. Well, it starts to sprinkle and then POUR down as we are halfway up!! That's 1.3 miles! We hide out off the main path, under some trees trying to get some semblance of cover. Of course, once it starts pouring, it didn't really help at all. In a matter of minutes we are all soaked and pretty bummed.
So I turn to them and ask what they want to do. "We are here and halfway up - We are going to see the view." And what a view it was! The sky was full of color and the sun was barely peaking above the clouds, just hovering above the horizon. We ended up having lots of fun taking photos while drenched from head to toe. It allowed us to embrace raw emotion and a carefree attitude.
