How to Choose the PERFECT Location for your Engagement Session!
This may be one of the most daunting pre-wedding question that is not directly related to your wedding day! I know many times my couples have nooo idea where they want their engagement photos to be. And that is okay! I am here to help you all the way through! Your engagement photos should represent your amazing relationship, showcase your love, laughter, and real emotions. AND your photographer should help you narrow down the perfect location for you!
I want you to sit down together, ask yourself these questions to help guide your hearts to your dream location:
When you envision your dream engagement photos, what do they look like?
Do you want to do something you don’t normally get to do?
Do you want to represent something you two enjoy doing together?
Do you want a setting you are familiar with or do you want jaw dropping views?
Maybe you’ve decided none of those questions really hit home, and what would really warm your heart is getting to stay home in your pj’s loving on each other? Because there is a session for that too! An In-Home Lifestyle Engagement Session! These are the place of some of the COZIEST photos and snuggles ever captured.
OR maybe those questions did give you some clues into the type of location you want for your engagement session! Here are some ideas to help you envision where you could have your session:
- Urban vs. Outdoorsy
- Mountains - Pilot Mountain (no hike), Hanging Rock (waterfall trails, hike to the views), Asheville, Boone, etc
- Canoeing, Kayaking, or SUP - Lake Brandt, Lake Higgins, Uwharrie, etc
- Picnicking with a lake or mountain view
- The beach
- Brewery - your favorite one, a new one, or a cool looking one!
- Coffee Shop - same as above!
- Downtown City - a bigger city or even smaller ones like Greensboro, Winston-Salem, or even little old downtown Kernersville!
Many of these outdoorsy locations will also have woodsy options and open fields!
Don’t forget to consider the time of year, too! If there's a carnival or fair in town, you could get some wickedly unique and super fun photos there! Hiking to the top of Hanging Rock will be blazing hot in the middle of summer, and the top of Pilot Mountain gets windy and much colder at the end of October through the beginning of spring.
Keep in mind, the best time to shoot outdoors is golden hour, right before sunset. And the best time to shoot indoors, is usually midday when there is plenty of light filtering inside.
Remember, if you are not sure exactly WHERE to execute your dream e-session, ask your photographer! He or she likely knows some awesome spots!!
